Formerly a Soldier, Ross Murray is a Chartered Surveyor and Trustee/Company Director of several property related businesses. He is a past President of The Country Land & Business Association (CLA) and a former Chairman of Knight Frank’s rural practise. He is currently a Forestry Commissioner, and a member of the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland (Royal Company of Archers).
Laura originally trained as a teacher – a skill that has been invaluable in her service as governor of four schools in Monmouthshire. In 2011 Laura and her husband created The Headboard Workshop and its' sister company The Footstool Workshop, which they continue to run from their HQ near Chepstow. Laura was appointed a DL in 2015.
Ben is a Chartered Surveyor and Co.Director. He manages the Llanarth and Llanover ( Newport ) Estates. He was on the Welsh Advisory Board of The National Trust and is currently President of The Royal Forestry Society. Ben lists his interest as all things rural.
Jack is the Manager of the Pontypool Park Estate. He was High Sheriff in 2001 and appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 2003
Liz is Managing Director of the family business, The David Broome Event Centre. Her role, along with her husband David and two sons, is the development and the day to day management of the Showground.
Anthony was brought up in Monmouthshire, moved away for a period in the Army, and worked in property for Knight Frank LLP based in the Marches. He now runs a small property search business. He was High Sheriff in 2016 and is a Community Councillor for St Arvans.

Cilla is a former Chair of The Prince’s Trust Cymru Advisory Council, Chair of the Gwent Police Authority, and Justice of the Peace. She was made OBE in 2005 and CBE in 2015, both for voluntary service to the community. She enjoys being a Church Warden and sits on the PCC.
Simon is Chairman of the Alacrity Graduate Entrepreneurship Foundation and Chief Executive of Wesley Clover Corporation. Before joining Wesley Clover, he was co-founder, President and CEO of Ubiquity Software Corporation. Simon was High Sheriff of Gwent 2023-2024.
Susan is the Chair of trustees at LATCH. She undertakes various voluntary roles, including membership of Gwent Police IAG and Monmouth Diocesan Trust. Susan has spent over twenty years of her professional life in the secondary education in Gwent.
Russ is a former member of the Royal Regiment of Wales. He is Chairman of the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association for Wales, Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Bn The Royal Welsh, and Honorary Colonel Dyfed and Glamorgan Army Cadet Force.
Agnes, a successful Solicitor, Mediator, and former General Counsel of GE Capital, is also a qualified Registered Nurse, Midwife, and former Nursing Officer. Her current portfolio includes Cardiff University, Welsh Water, CBC, and Livery Companies. She is a Justice of the Peace, Freeman of the City of London, Liveryman of London Liveries and Immediate Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Wales. She is the recipient of the High Sheriff of S. Glam’s 2025 Award, 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award and was elected a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.
Being from Blaina from many generations of mining families, she was the only person in her family to go onto tertiary education and obtained a law degree from Leicester University. She is presently the resident family judge for Gwent. She has a keen interest in children’s rights and equal opportunity for all structures of society. Helen is High Sheriff of Gwent 2024-2025.
Richard is the Managing Director and Co-founder of Pro Steel Engineering in Pontypool, Honorary Captain in the Admiralty Squadron of the Royal Navy Reserve, National Chair of the Institute of Directors Wales and Chair of The King’s Trust Cymru Development Committee.
Judith has spent her whole career with NHS Wales. A former CEO of the Aneurin Bevan UHB for which she was made CBE, she is now Chief Executive of NHS Wales. Judith lives in Cwmbran and was appointed DL in 2021.

Richard worked for the NHS for over 35 years, retiring as Board Secretary of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in 2020. However, Richard returned to the world of work in 2024 and is now Corporate Director of Governance for LLais, the people’s voice body for health and social care in Wales.
Kate is a farmer, cider maker, senior fellow, founder of Kate’s Country School and the Woodland Creation Officer for Stump Up For Trees. She was awarded an MBE for services to agriculture and is an Associate (ARAgS) with the Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS).
Paul Griffiths OBE KStJ DL – a Senior Police Officer who has served for over 7 years in national roles, including President, in the Police Superintendents’ Association . He is also Prior for the Priory of Wales and Chair of the Board for St John Ambulance Cymru.
Phillip Alderman retired from the NHS at the end of 2020 after more than 38 years’ service, the last 27 years spent serving the people of Gwent as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Gwent Hospital. He continued in private practice until the end of June 2023. He was High Sheriff of Gwent in 2021-2022 and was formerly Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon to Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons
Karl Gilmore, former Infrastructure Director at Transport for Wales, responsible for delivering the South Wales Metro programme and currently Chief of Staff at DEEP Institute. An advocate for all things positive, ranging from championing ED&I, Armed Forces Champion, STEM Ambassador and sponsor of the Building Futures Pathways programme, offering ex-offenders sustained employment.
Jenny is recently retired from being Chief Executive of the UK Health Security Agency and previously Director of Public Health for Monmouthshire and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England. She is a qualified Doctor and a visiting Professor of Public Health. Her career has been spent in health, social care and local government services throughout the UK and internationally, including with the World Health Organisation.
In 1982, the Sir Galahad tragedy left Welsh Guardsman Simon Weston with 46% burns, sparking a journey of resilience. Awarded an OBE in 1992 and CBE in 2016, Simon's tireless charity work, including founding Care after Combat, earned recognition. Now a successful businessman, Simon's remarkable life reflects courage, resilience, and impactful contributions to charity and society.

Tim Haynes lives in Monmouth and has been involved in education for much of his life. He was Headmaster of Monmouth School before moving to Tonbridge School. He has been a governor or Chair of a number of state and independent schools including The Marsh Academy, Shrewsbury School and most recently Haberdashers Monmouth School. He has been Master of the Skinners Company and is a member of the Haberdashers Company.
