The David Hawthorn Memorial Gala Concert

This year marks the return of the fourth annual gala concert in memory of former Vanguard chairman Mr David Hawthorn. The annual concert had fallen silent over the last three years owing to the global pandemic. The concert , welcomed back Noteworthy Mixed Choir from Maesteg , The Volante Tenors music director Ryan Wood, and accompanist Stewart Roberts.

The annual gala concert made its first appearance in 2017, and has so far helped to contribute fundraising in excess of £12,000 for charities across Wales including the MND association of South East Wales, The Alzheimer’s Society Cymru, and the Tommy Cooper Society in Caerphilly.

This year the concert was proud to support Blood Bikes Wales, who’s free courier service to the NHS relies solely on volunteers and public donations to help deliver vital supplies of Blood, Plasma and medical supplies to hospitals across Wales completely free of charge.

It was an excellent concert and a wonderful evening. Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent Jeff Cuthbert BSc, MCIPD addressed the audience and explained about the chosen Charity Blood Bikes.

He also thanked the audience which included The Lord -Lieutenant of Gwent Brigadier Robert Aitken CBE, Deputy-Lieutenant Agnes Xavier- Phillips JP and former Mayor of Caerphilly Elizabeth M Aldworth for helping to support the concert.

He gave huge thanks to the evening’s performers who had given their time and talent to help support a charity which quite literally helps to save lives on a daily basis.
